About the Artist Jeff Unger is a self-taught artist who paints as a hobby.
For the last decade Central Missouri Aviation in Columbia, Missouri has commissioned Jeff to do their Memorial Day Air Show commemoration paintings.
Jeff's love affair with airplanes started as a child while visiting his uncle Phil Houghton. Phil was a WW2 P51 Fighter Pilot, who worked for McDonald Douglas after the war as a chief test pilot for F101-Voodoo and the F4-Phantom. These three planes have become Jeff's life-long favorites. Jeff's father, Bill Unger was a radio operator on C47s, C46s and B24s during WW2. Bill Unger was also a “Humpster”, flying in the CBI theatre, thus cementing Jeff's life long respect and gratitude for all America's service men and women.
His other subjects include Formula One cars, vintage automobiles and wildlife art. The first subjects Jeff painted were racing cars. As a traveling salesman, his father would bring home a new car every two years, schooling each of his six children in the automobile's virtues, drawbacks, and techniques for maintaining them in proper working order and detailed cleanliness! This soon gave way to Jeff drawing racecars in high school, much to the chagrin of his art teacher. Interest in Formula One cars was paramount, and Jeff is to this day an avid fan of Formula One racing.
Other interests and hobbies include; golf, hunting, fishing, car restoration and car shows. His twice-restored 1970 Jaguar XKE has received several first and best of shows awards in the Midwest.
Jeff is a Grain Broker at the Kansas City Board of Trade, and is a former Director of the Kansas City Board of Trade
